An Event for a Worthy Undertaking!

Look at the great press release we just received!

Twenty-Six volunteers helped turn a dream into reality on the morning of June 6 at the first annual Ottauquechee Trail Day. Sheila Armen, Sharon Taylor,Linda Fisher and John Taylor of the Upper Valley Trails Alliance led the group. With the aid of a pickup truck, a mini dump truck and a tractor, pushing wheelbarrows, dragging large buckets, the group managed to mulch almost the entire first leg of the trail which begins at the entrance to the Polo Field and runs through the front lawn of the Quechee Inn. The Covered Bridge Half Marathon prevented the Polo Field section from being completed until after the race and the group ran out of time, if not energy, before a section through the woods and the Quechee Inn property could be completed.

Signs are posted and the first leg is ready for walkers and runners. The workers then were served a well deserved lunch on the terrace of the Quechee Inn thanks to the generosity of the inn and Innkeepers Mary and Rick Trahan. Dave Clark provided live music.

FOOT also wants to thank John Taylor of the Upper Valley Trails Alliance for his support, hard work and generosity and acknowledge the donations from members and the Covered Bridge Half Marathon and funding by the Ottauquechee Health Foundation. And it was anice afternoon for a well-earned nap!

Artist of the Month

Each month, the Quechee Inn at Marshland Farm chooses an Artist of the Month to showcase in our Common Room. These prints are for sale so please come and look. Through this blog, we will alert you to these very talented local and regional artists!

This month--Lois Macuga

Lois, a Quechee native, is a member of the Vermont Watercolor Society and the Bryan Gallery in nearby Jeffersonville. Her watercolors are sublime! She is interested in portrait work and would be happy to hear from anyone who is interested in sitting for her.

Her work is on display at the Quechee Inn Art Gallery until July 9.

Hope to see you here!

Get in touch with the Outdoors!

Did you know that at Quechee Inn at Marshland Farm, you can really get to experience the outdoors! Right behind the Inn is Marty Banak's "office", that is, his very cool little house that has a myriad of fun toys, including kayaks, canoes, fishing equipment and in the winter, skates, skis, snoeshoes and more! He has equipment for all ages and will be happy to lead you on tours of the gorgeous areas surrounding the Quechee Inn.

Marty runs the Vermont Fly-Fishing School. As he says, "Come experience the soul-soothing simplicity of casting a fly in a clear Vermont trout stream." Here is a photo of Marty in action.

To contact Marty to get some fly-fishing of your own in while visiting Quechee Inn at Marshland Farm, call 802-295-7620 or email him at wildernesstrails@comcast.net. His website is http://www.wildernesstrailsvt.com/.

Small World

Our Innkeeper, Rick Trahan, ran into some friends from his "former life" as manager of the Clinton Country Club. As this couple approached the Inn, Rick knew they would need help with their luggage and once outside, they all recognized each other. It has been over a decade since Rick and Chef Ed Kroes worked at Clinton Country Club and you know it's a small world with you meet up like this with folks from the past.
